- 2008 EROI Festival
- The Eastman School of Music is pleased to announce the seventh annual
Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative (EROI) Festival will take place October
16-20. This year’s event celebrates the debut of the Craighead-Saunders
Organ in Christ Church (Episcopal). The two-manual, thirty-three-stop
instrument is a scientific reconstruction of an organ from 1776 built
by Adam Gottlob Casparini for the Holy Ghost Church in Vilnius, Lithuania
and is the culmination of a six-year interdisciplinary research project
between the Göteborg Organ Art Center (GOArt) and the Eastman School
of Music on the processes of eighteenth-century organ building.
EROI Festival highlights include a Gala Concert of Bach’s vocal
and instrumental music on Friday, October 17, 2008. The Boston Early
Music Festival Chamber Players and the Christ Church Schola Cantorum
will join forces to present two performances of this concert at 6:30
p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The program includes Bach’s cantata no. 29,
Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir and cantata no. 71, Gott ist mein
Konig. Tickets for this and other EROI performances will be available
at the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Box Office (108 East Avenue,
585-454-2100).
The full schedule of festival events and registration information is
listed on the EROI website: http://www.esm.rochester.edu/EROI/festival-2008.php.
Request for Housing for EROI
In order to keep costs down, the EROI Festival has a tradition of housing
performers and guests with local hosts. In most cases the only thing
guests require is a place to sleep and a modest breakfast (students
take care of airport pick-up/drop-off and transportation). If you are
interested in helping us with this important aspect of the festival,
please contact Annie Laver, EROI Project Manager: (585)469-4089 or anne.laver@rochester.edu.
Hosts will receive complimentary tickets to an EROI recital of their
choice and the unending gratitude of the Eastman Organ Department!
